Poland: Creating a New Jewish Heritage:
Critically ill and afraid of dying, an elderly woman in Poland confesses to her only son,
a Catholic priest, that his biological parents were Jewish
and exterminated by Hitler's Nazi regime when he was an infant.
A number of Polish individuals participate in Jewish
activities, expressing interest in converting, only to discover that they have Jewish roots hidden from them until the collapse of Communism. Such stories, arising out of a history in which the Jewish life that flourished in Poland until World War II was
90% annihilated by the Nazis then strangled by the government that followed,
are documented in Poland: Creating a New Jewish Heritage.
Shot on location, the
documentary narrated by Joe Morton explores the phenomenon of the revitalization of Jewish life in
Poland, the historical backdrop, the ways in which Polish Jews of all ages are integrating their personal
histories into their lives, and the obstacles they face as a result of their unique past. This documentary sells at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
